Imlay Crafts was formed in 1974 as Eden Craft Workshop to promote the crafts, primarily pottery.
Fund raising, Crafts Council grants and the support of the Bega Valley Shire Council enabled the establishment and subsequent maintenance of a fully equipped pottery workshop for the use of members. This is now located at the rear of the Tourist Information Centre, Eden.
The membership ranges from the raw beginner to those of many years experience, including former production potters and those with tertiary qualifications. Occasionally the group has primitive firings or glaze testing days.
Over the years grants for workshops have also been received from the Ceramic Study Group Inc (Sydney) and NSW Regional Arts. Each year a prominent Australian potter is invited to the area to conduct a weekend workshop, with people from the Southeast, Monaro and far eastern Victoria attending. These workshops have covered a variety of techniques from wheel throwing and handbuilding to decorative surface finishes and glazes.
From time to time short courses are conducted by members to endeavour to maintain an interest in pottery.
Meetings are held on the first Saturday of the month at 10.30 am at the Workshop. New members are welcome and encouraged.
